A stock option is actually a contract that permits its owner to purchase or sell a stock prior to its expiration date at a certain price. As a result, it offers you various alternatives in terms of buying and selling stocks. For a better understanding, consider an option to purchase a house. You sign a contract granting you the right to buy a house at a certain price in a certain period of time. A stock option is very similar.

Why are Stocks Simple and Options So Complex?

Let’s discuss the complexities of options and how they differ from trading stocks. First of all stocks are simply one-dimensional trading vehicles, the dimension of “price movement.” For example, one can go long a stock if he/she is forecasting a rise in the price of the underlying asset. The stock trader doesn’t need to worry about time or changes in volatility affecting the outcome of his trade. The stock trader only needs to focus on the asset’s price movements.

The Heavy Problem with Iron Condors

There are serious weaknesses in the traditional Iron Condor strategy that you should know about to protect yourself from major losses. Typical and predictable patterns occur on the expiration Profit and Loss graph (in Think or Swim or similar tools) as we make adjustments to this trade. The trade itself doesn’t have an architecture that welcomes adjustments.

Are Your Options Losing Value?

Today we’ll be discussing the differences between investing with stocks and options. Let′s first tackle the less complex investing vehicle, stocks. Most of the world already knows, but in case you don’t, stocks are directional trading vehicles. If we are long the stock, then we make money when the prices of the asset rises, and we lose capital as the underlying asset drops in price. We can also sell a stock short in which the profit comes when the stock falls. In any case when investing with stocks, the direction is what matters. We don’t need to worry about market volatility or time.
