The Door In The Backyard: Part 5

After sprinting through the pavilion, which had reminded me again of how terribly out of shape I really am, we walked thru the doors into a large rotunda. The inside of this rotunda was at least 4 times the size of the one at the university of Virginia. Though that one is nice, this one was covered with more art than the Metropolitan Museum of Art back home. As soon as we entered there was a man, sitting behind a desk. He looked like a debt collector, with his fountain pen, big open book he was scribbling in, and the look on his face as he wrote down information. More than likely the town accountant or something, or the person dealing with collection of taxes for whoever the king was. Maybe it was this Ratu guy.

Good Morning, I would like to Collect a Past Due Payment from You. Why Credit Card Companies Should Call In The Afternoon

This morning American Express telephoned me to collect my past due payment. The amount of money that was past due that American Express woke me up to collect was insignificant. A whopping $200 was what it cost to have a morning service call from a gigantic credit card company. Why do credit card companies feel that it is necessary to collect money that is past due the following day? I thought that there was some sort of policy or waiting period in order to collect past due funds? As for the call in the morning, why am I being contacted so early in the morning anyway!

Owing people money is not fun. I remember when I was younger there was a time I would borrow money from friends family or whoever would lend me anything in their pockets. As eager as they were to hand me money, I was nowhere near as eager to pay back the said funds. I became that person that you wouldn’t want to give money to; the irresponsible spender that couldn’t rub two to quarters together. As I grew older though, I learned that the importance of debt and repaying the debt owed to another person was important and impacted my personal life significantly. I would learn to avoid becoming ensnared in the pitfalls of bad debt and the collection companies that could possible make my life a living hell.

Collection Calls And Collection Harassment

Owning a credit card is an simple way to fall into the debt trap. I had the luxury of learning how easy it is to fall in to debt. The only good thing for me, was that I am able to pay my debt on time and dodged collection harassment and collection calls. Unlike me not so a lot of people are that lucky that they do not have to deal with collection harassment. The best advice I can supply is to avoid debt all together and to be smart about your money management.
